Spring Break 2015 // Day 5

Today was another very low key day. In the morning, I lazed around for a bit, and then headed to the kitchen to make dutch baby. For those of you who don't know what that is, it's a breakfast for which you make an extremely simple batter out of flour, milk, and eggs. Then you put a pan in a preheated oven with lots of butter; once the butter is melted, you pour in the batter, and let the breakfast bake for around fifteen minutes. When it comes out (if you've done everything right) there should be peaks all around the sides, and the rest is fluffy. It's hard to explain, but they are delicious--especially if you eat it with maple syrup and fruit salad, as we did.

After breakfast, I worked on finishing up by blog from the previous day, as my Mom and her friend who was visiting caught up. Soon, we left for a hike at Hidden Villa (an organic farm with trails going into the mountains). Although the morning had been somewhat grey, by the time we reached the lookout at the top, there was nothing but blue above us, the the sun felt great.

Coming home for lunch, my Mom made a nice salad with grapefruit, feta, dried sour cherries, and pecans (if you've never tried this combo, I would recommend trying it!). Then I spent a long bit of the afternoon reading old posts from the Londoner; she's a British lifestyle blogger, and by far my favorite!! As enjoyable as this was, I began to get restless, so in the late afternoon, we headed out to get supplies for a big pizza dinner that night!

After a shower, I got down to business and worked on a history essay. By the time I finished, the pizza was almost ready, and let me tell you, my family takes pizza seriously. My Dad makes a great overnight dough, then my Mom masters the toppings, and finally, my Uncle does the cooking on a wood stone out in the garden on a grill. It may sound like a lot of work, but DAMN it was good!

That is some SERIOUS food porn!

After feeling sufficiently stuffed, I laid on the couch, and watched some Netflix. A little later, of course I had to go eat more, so we sat down at the table to some Talenti. This is a gelato brand you can get at the grocery store, and buy in pints; it's typically a little on the expensive side, but my Grandma had gone overboard on a two for one sale, and bought six right before we came! My findings were that Caramel Cookie Crunch was definitely the best, but if you mix Caribbean Coconut and Double Fudge Brownie, you get something truly mouthwatering :) I promise you can trust me on that; I know my ice cream. I then made some tea, grabbed a chocolate chip cookie, and headed back to finish my show before retiring for the night.
